Scientists find way to trap, kill malaria parasite

Scientists may be able to entomb the malaria parasite in a prison of its own making, researchers at the School of Medicine report in Nature. The parasite is among the world’s deadliest pathogens.

Brown School researcher joins Clinton Global Initiative

Michal Grinstein-Weiss, PhD, associate director of the Center for Social Development at the Brown School, has been asked to join the Clinton Global Initiative and its Financial Opportunity Working Group. The group focuses on developing sustainable programs to create financial opportunities for low- and moderate-income households.

Unanue receives lifetime achievement award

Emil Unanue, MD, the Paul and Ellen Lacy Professor of Pathology and Immunology, has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association of Immunologists. The award is the organization’s highest honor.

Corcoran named School of Medicine’s assistant dean for finance

Mary Corcoran has been named assistant dean for finance at the School of Medicine. Her appointment, which marks her return to the university after six years at Stanford University, is effective Aug. 21.
